Maritas- Guilty! Convicted!
UFLEOS head Steve Maritas has been convicted of assaulting a rival union leader and sentenced to jail time. Once again the UFLEOS has proven itself to be a criminally run organization.
On February 19, 2025 in the Circuit Court for the First Circuit in Honolulu, Hawaii, Maritas was convicted of Assault in the Third Degree for his 2023 brutal attack on SPFPA Vice President Joe McCray. Rejecting Maritas’ desperate plea for deferral of the conviction, the Judge instead entered the conviction and ordered Maritas to serve jail time as well as one year’s probation. The Judge’s Order includes Special Conditions including:
- Prohibiting Maritas from owning or possessing any firearms and ammunition, and ordered immediately to turn in those he currently has to law enforcement,
- Prohibiting Maritas from consuming alcohol or using unprescribed drugs with random testing for both, and
- Requiring Maritas to make payments to the crime victim compensation fund.

During the next year Criminal Maritas will be required to report regularly to his probation officer and will not be permitted to travel out of state without specific permission.
It is not clear how Criminal Maritas will be able to service his membership under these conditions, but of course historically he has failed to service them anyway.

Criminal Maritas’ actions in the courthouse on February 19th make it very apparent that anger management treatment is needed without further delay. After being properly served at the courthouse with an official court summons for a SPFPA lawsuit against Criminal Maritas and the criminally run UFLEOS, Criminal Maritas went into a childish rage and slammed the document into a nearby trash can. As the summons included a lawsuit against the UFLEOS, Criminal Maritas’ efforts to ignore it by literally throwing it in the trash may leave UFLEOS members exposed to a default judgment to the SPFPA for substantial sums.

Criminal Maritas has filed for bankruptcy protection and under oath told the bankruptcy court that despite making more than $200,000 a year from the UFLEOS, he has no significant funds. In his bankruptcy schedule of expenses, he has not listed payments to counsel in Hawaii to defend him against the criminal charges. How has Criminal Maritas paid for his expensive legal counsel and multiple trips to Hawaii to defend himself against the criminal charges? Is he using union dues money as he has to fund his lawsuit defenses in the civil cases that have been filed? Currently, we believe Maritas/UFLEOS are under multiple government/ DOL investigations for not timely filing the required yearly LM reports and possible questionable transactions. We will keep you advised as more information becomes available.
