Maritas under NLRB investigation after senseless RANT!

When serving required NLRB papers in Case No. 01-RC-309281, Federation/LEOSU Director Steve Maritas simply could not control himself and so again has exposed Federation/LEOSU to significant legal and financial consequences.  When serving the forms on the SPFPA and others, without reason or rational explanation, Maritas included an exceptionally profane rant and personal attack on SPFPA President David Hickey.  As you can imagine, the NLRB does not tolerate this type of misconduct.  Immediately after Maritas misused the NLRB processes in this case, the NLRB began investigating the Federation/LEOSU and Maritas for these actions.  The NLRB also continues to investigate the Federation/ LEOSU and Maritas’ inappropriate behavior over the last months in cases in four different NLRB Regions.  Charges against the Federation/LEOSU and Maritas may issue soon.

After the SPFPA obtained a jury verdict judgment against Maritas a year ago for more than $500,000, and now has taken effective action to collect those sums, Maritas simply has not been able to control his behavior.  Instead, he continues to act as a wounded rat, flailing out harshly in nonsensical and ineffective manners.  This has and continues to lead to serious financial and other consequences for the Federation/LEOSU and its members, not the least of which is the significant amount of money that regularly has to be paid to their lawyers just to defend Maritas and the union from the charges that have resulted. 

In fact, in a formal NLRB party filing in this case, it now has been asserted that the Federation/LEOSU and Maritas’ misconduct disqualifies them from participating in any election that may be held and rather their petition must be dismissed!  How much Federation/LEOSU members’ dues now will have to be spent on high priced attorneys to try to clean up this Maritas created mess?  If cleanup is even possible.

Meanwhile, the Federation/LEOSU so-called President Chip Strebeck is too scared of Maritas to try to reign him in, as he is afraid that he will lose his cushy “President” position paying him more than $140,000 a year from Federation/LEOSU members’ dues. And of course, the other so-called Executive Board members who Maritas appointed – including his brother-in-law and old friends – have absolutely no power or desire to try to get Maritas under control.  Why do you think he appointed them in the first place?  So Maritas will continue to take an estimated almost $200,000 a year directly from Federation/LEOSU members’ dues while publicly ranting and raving and working only to drag down the union.  And with what is left of the dues, if any, Federation/ LEOSU members will continue to have a significant portion of their dues spent on attorneys needed to try to clean up Maritas’ messes.  No wonder so many Federation/LEOSU groups are looking for elections this year to vote out Maritas and his cronies.
